Former Commissioners taking up new occupation in 2011
Olivier Hoedeman made this access to information request to Secretariat General (SG)
The request was partially successful.
From: Olivier Hoedeman
2 December 2011
Dear Secretariat General (SG),
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as
developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which
contain the following information:
- All decisions/opinions by the Ad hoc Ethical Committee in 2011
about former Commissioners taking up new occupation.
- All memorandums and other communication from the European
Commission President to the Commission about former Commissioners
taking up new occupation in 2011.
Charlie McCreevy took up several new occupations in 2011 before his
eighteen month notification period expired (for instance
WorldSpreads in June 2011, Sports Direct and BNY Mellon earlier in
the year) and this might be the case for other former Commissioners
too. I was under the impression that decisions about former
Commissioners taking up new occupation would be published online
from April 2011 onwards as part of the new Commission's approach
following the revision of the Code of Conduct. This promise of
pro-active transparency unfortunately does not seem to be
implemented yet, hence this request.
Yours faithfully,
Olivier Hoedeman
