Commissioner Cecilia Malmström
Directorate-General Trade
European Commission
Rue de la Loi 170
B-1049 Brussels BELGIUM
Dear Commissioner Malmström:
In light of the continuing TPP negotiations, we have decided to push the previously scheduled
meeting of the Trans-Atlantic Business Dialogue (TABD) here in Washington from October 6 to
Friday, December 4.  This meeting will now replace a January meeting in Davos. We know that
both the EU and the U.S. (and the G-7 Heads of State) have called for substantial progress to be
made in the TTIP negotiations this year and that discussions will undoubtedly continue into 2016 in
an effort to conclude negotiation of this very important agreement during the Obama Administration.
With this in mind, the TABD executives will convene during the afternoon of December 4 to review
with you, Ambassador Froman, and other appropriate officials the outstanding issues that must be
resolved in order to conclude an agreement and how we might assist in accomplishing that critical
objective.
In addition to TTIP issues, our members would appreciate a briefing on the EU’s new Trade Strategy,
which we expect to be announced this fall.  We have requested that Ambassador Froman additionally
provide a detailed briefing on the content of the expected TPP agreement.  We will be inviting Under
Secretary of State Cathy Novelli to discuss the plans for the revitalized Transatlantic Economic
Council (TEC) and Ambassador O’Sullivan to provide his observations from his position in
Washington.  We would warmly welcome any other members of your team that you consider
appropriate.
The meeting will be chaired by our TABD chairs, Dave Ricks, President of Lilly Biosciences, and José
Manuel González-Páramo, Executive Board Director of BBVA, and held in Lilly’s Washington, DC
office at 555 12th Street, NW.  We hope that you can join us at some point during the 1:30 to 3:00 pm
timeframe.
Please let me know if you are able to attend.  I can be reached at
