The objective of the meeting was to discuss the state of play of negotiations on rules of origin for 
chemicals, particularly in the negotiations with Japan and [Outside the scope of the request]
CEFIC explained that the current proposal on rules of origin for chemicals is a result of industry 
cooperation and agreement in the Chemical Council. CEFIC advocates for simple and flexible rules of 
origin.

DG TRADE presented the state of discussions on chemical products in the ongoing FTA negotiations and 
asked for some clarification regarding the alternative processing rules that have been an outstanding 
issue in the negotiations with Japan.
