Concept note and agenda: Multistakeholder Informal consultation on Business and Human Rights
Aim: Consult with stakeholders regarding the various tracks in the United Nations in Geneva on the
implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights as well as the discussion
on the possibility to elaborate a legally binding instrument. The main objective is to
deepen our
engagement vis-à-vis all the relevant stakeholders in the field of Business and Human Rights. The
related objectives are
(i) to hear the views and expectations from stakeholders regarding the EU policy at the internal level;
action at the external level including through the network of EU Delegations and its position at the
multilateral level
(ii) to explore ways to reinforce the cooperation between the EU, CSOs and businesses at local level
to boost the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles, in particular in countries with challenging
human rights situations
(iii) take stock of opportunities and challenges on Business and Human Rights at the global level
Participants: approx. 60 participants, including key CSOs active on BHR, HRDs, victims, companies
leading the way on RBC/CSR, trade unions and NHRIs.
