WOR LD JEWISH CONG RESS
Mr. Frans Timmermans
First Vice President
European Commission
Breydel Building
Rue de la Loi 200
B – 1049 Brussels
Geneva, 9 June 2017
Dear Commissioner Timmermans,
I would like to thank you most sincerely for having taken time to meet with me,
and my colleagues, during my short visit to Brussels this week.
I thoroughly enjoyed our discussion – especially reminiscing about times past in the
Dutch Embassy in Moscow, for which I remain truly grateful – and appreciated your
warm welcome and willingness to be of assistance to us.
As I mentioned, one of the main concerns of the Jewish communities which
comprise the World Jewish Congress -- primarily, but not only, in Europe -- is their
physical security in light of the many recent terrorist attacks. We would be most
grateful to the European Commission, and to you personally, if you could take an
initiative in gathering together representatives of the relevant services in the EU
Member States and EU Institutions for an exchange of views and best practices with
our experts in this field. Any assistance in establishing contact between us and
Europol would also be most appreciated.
For your information, we also had very productive meetings with
, who have both also kindly
offered their assistance.
