INVITATION: Data Science and Law Forum event_March 3_Microsoft
Center,Brussels
Dear Mr.
,
I’m contacting you concerning an event that Microsoft is organizing in Brussels on 3 March
2020 on the topic of responsible regulatory approaches to artificial intelligence. This event is
the second chapter of a series titled “Data Science & Law” which was kicked-off with a first
event that took place in Brussels in September 2018, which was joined by several
representatives of the European Commission. A report from the first event organized in 2018 is
available in the attached document.
The event on
3 March 2020 gathers experts from the research community, civil society,
policymaking and the legal practice to advance the dialogue on developing robust and
responsible AI governance rules, and to promote early conversations on the state of quantum
computing. More information on the event and the agenda are availabl
e here.
The event is structured around breakout sessions that will look at specific topics such as AI
governance and impact assessments, facial recognition technology, fairness, transparency and
accountability and a session on liability rules for AI systems following the report published by
the European Commission’s Expert Group on liability for emerging technologies.
Given your leading role at the European Commission on the topic of liability for emerging
technologies, we would be extremely honored if you could speak on this specific topic. My
colleague
(in cc),
, can provide more detail on
the session, which will take place from
14:15 to 15:45. You are of course more than welcome to
join any other session you might find interesting.
The session on liability will also be joined by
from the
to talk about post-contractual principles in the context of AI systems, and we
are also in touch with speakers that could represent industry, civil society and the legal
practice.
Thank you very much in advance for your kind attention, we look forward to hearing from you
and are of course at your disposal should you have any questions.
Best regards,
– Microsoft
