x DG Climate Action: Mauro Petriccione (MP), Director General,
PGE raised concerns relating to potentially high costs of an increased 2030 target for the
power sector in Poland. They believe that the impact assessment should be carried out
not only at the level of the EU but also for the individual Member States. They intend to
participate in the public consultation with a robust analysis on the impacts of increased
targets on PL’s power sector. MP pointed out that the increased target would not have to
be met by the ETS sector alone, but by the economy as a whole.
PGE believes that today’s ETS price already provides enough stimulation for a shift
towards low-carbon investment, and that higher prices would deprive the PL power
industry from the necessary funding to realise low-carbon investments. They see a need
to adjust financing mechanisms for low income Member States in the forthcoming ETS
revision. PGE also pays particular importance to the JTM, the funding for which should
significantly increase in their view. MP expressed the importance the Commission pays
to these solidarity mechanisms.
PGE enquired about COM action to foster the economic recovery after the current crisis
and possible priority projects in the power sector. MP explained the recent initiatives of
the Commission in this respect and confirmed the continued prioritisation of
decarbonisation projects.
