• FSA are in the process of purchasing a
measuring device to record the electrical
parameters in water bath stunners and will
have trained employed Veterinary staff on
use of this equipment by the end of this year.
• FSA check list for approvals has been
amended to include a question on line speed.
• Revised operational instructions regarding
the implementation of 1099/2009 outside
approved slaughterhouses were published by
the APHA on 15 October 2014 in Scotland
and Wales.
• APHA have worked closely with FSA and
representatives of the Local Authorities to
develop better communications especially on
providing feedback to FSA OV’s on welfare
issues identified at slaughterhouses. A system
has been agreed, and changes to APHA
