Subject:  Stakeholder Advisory Board for the activities of the EU Reference Centre
focusing on the welfare of pigs - EURCAW-Pigs
Dear Madam, dear Sir,
The Commission designated a first European Union reference centre for animal welfare
in October 2018. The activities of this reference centre aim at improving the enforcement
of EU legislation on welfare of pigs, including during transport and at the time of killing1.
I would appreciate it, if you would nominate one person and a substitute from your
organisation to participate in the Stakeholder Advisory Board for this reference centre.
The Stakeholder Advisory Board will be set up in accordance with the reference centre’s
work programme to provide advice regarding its functioning and future activities. The
aim is to receive practical and strategic advice on animal welfare indicators, on
coordinated assistance and on training courses, to gather information and to receive
feedback on the current (2019-2020) and on the next work programmes (2021-2022).
In 2020, the reference centre will conduct two one-day meetings with the Stakeholder
Advisory Board. Due to the Covid-19-situation, at least the first meeting will be
organised as a video conference. The second will take place in Brussels, if possible. The
language of the meetings and of the documents produced will be English. In the case of a
physical meeting, the reference centre will reimburse travel and accommodation expenses
of the invited members for the participation in the meeting.
