EVP Valdis Dombrovskis (EVP) meeting with VP of Facebook

The meeting was requested by Facebook for an exchange of views on the EU’s digital finance
strategy, particularly on stablecoins, crypto currencies and digital wallets. During the meeting, EVP
and
also discussed a possible agenda for the EU-US Trade and Technology Council, focusing on
transatlantic data transfers and free flows of data.
EVP informed
on the Commission’s position on a digital euro, that it supports the ECB’s initiative
and is working together on a broad range of policy options at technical level.
also informed about Facebook’s position on the Data Market Act, particularly regarding concerns
over data transfers and free flow of data, and suggested putting data flow on the agenda for the
proposed of the EU-US Trade and Technology Council. EVP said that free data flow will be the key
topic at the e-commerce negotations in the World Trade Organisation, and that the EU has held a
position on this since 2018.
