Meeting with Business Europe on the preparation of the EU Industrial Strategy
28 April 2021
Participants:
•
(Business Europe)
• Commissioner Breton, Joan Canton (member of Cabinet)
Summary
- Commissioner Breton informed Business Europe of the broad elements to be presented as part
of the update of the industrial strategy package.
- Business Europe stressed a number of points they would like to see reflected in the update of
the strategy. This included:
o The need to fully acknowledge the impact of COVID-19 on the economy, including the
possibility of a delayed recovery.
o Supporting the business case for the twin green and digital transitions. This included the
need to manage the green transition while maintaining competitive value chains, jobs
and companies. Regarding the digital transformation, this must be supported by an
incentivising investment climate and by developing trusted conditions for the safe
deployment and use of new technologies
o The need to restore freedoms of movement in the Single Market as soon as possible,
deepen it in al areas, and focus on how the robustness of supply and value chains
should be further improved through business-driven diversification.
o Supporting the implementation of Important Projects of Common European Interest.
