Brexit - How UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Die Anfrage war erfolgreich.

Dear European Parliament,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

We would like to know what European Parliament position about Brexit - some people says that if UK would leave EU in case of Brexit.

Would it affect Deaf and Disabled people rights? Can UK still obligated to follow UNCRPD rights?

Do we must need EU to follow UNCRCPD rights?

Yours faithfully,

Ezio Savva

AskEP, Europäisches Parlament

Dear Sir/Madam,

The Citizens’ Enquiries Unit of the European Parliament has received your
message concerning the United Kingdom's referendum on its membership of
the European Union.

Please note that your message has been read attentively and its contents
duly noted.

On 23 June 2016, the electorate of the United Kingdom (UK) decided in a
referendum that the UK leaves the European Union (EU). The political
leaders of the EU issued a [1]joint statement on 24 June 2016 on the
outcome of the referendum, stating that whilst they regretted the result,
they respected it, and they called upon the government of the UK to give
effect to this decision of the British people as soon as possible because
delay would unnecessarily prolong uncertainty.

In accordance with the EU Treaties, a Member State which decides to
withdraw shall notify the European Council of its intention under the
Article 50 procedure foreseen in the Treaty on European Union (TEU).

The European Parliament debated the outcome and consequences of the UK
referendum decision on 28 June 2016. Please find here [2]a link to a
summary of the debate as well as links to videos of the speeches and press
releases of the political groups in the Parliament. At the end of the
debate, the Parliament adopted a [3]resolution on the decision to leave
the EU resulting from the UK referendum, calling for the decision of the
UK electorate to be respected and implemented as soon as possible.

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that Members of the
European Parliament (MEPs) cannot be bound by any instructions and cannot
receive a binding mandate according to the [4]Treaty on the Functioning of
the European Union and the [5]Rules of Procedure of the European
Parliament. Consequently, neither the Parliament nor its President have
the authority to give instructions to Members on how they conduct their
political activities. If you wish to comment on the speeches and/or
political positions of a particular Member, you should contact them
directly using the contact details available on their personal page on the
Parliament’s website. A list of MEPs is available [6]here.

The European Council discussed the UK referendum decision on 28 June 2016,
and you will find here [7]Mr Schulz’s speech at the Council. At the
conclusion of the meeting, European Council President Donald Tusk in
[8]his remarks stated that ‘Prime Minister Cameron undertook that the
decision to trigger Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union be taken by
the new leadership in Britain.’

For further information, you may wish to consult the European
Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) briefing: [9]'Article 50 TEU:
Withdrawal of a Member State from the EU'. It should be noted that
subjects of interest to citizens such as the migration of EU citizens to
the UK, or EU freedom of movement for UK citizens, or any future
arrangements on citizenship, may be settled during the Article 50
negotiations. However, it is not possible at this time to foresee what the
result of these negotiations might be. Whatever the outcome, the consent
of the European Parliament will be required for a withdrawal agreement
according to Article 50 (2) of the TEU.

To keep abreast of future developments, please consult the [10]EP's
Newsroom webpage.

We thank you for contacting the European Parliament.

Yours sincerely,

Citizens' Enquiries Unit
