Bureau Veritas in charge of control tasks for Halloumi POD certification
Dear Secretariat General of the European Commission,
On July 16 2015, a common understanding on a temporary solution for the POD certification of Halloumi/Hellim was reached. In it, Bureau Veritas was appointed as the body in charge of the control tasks provided for by Regulation 1151/2012 on quality schemes for agricultural products.
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
- correspondence between the EU commission and Bureau Veritas, leading up to its appointment in July 2015
- agendas and notes taken during meetings with representatives of Cypriot authorities, representatives from cheesemakers, cattle-farmers or dairy producers association (be they from the Greek Cypriot or Turkish Cypriot communities), or with Bureau Veritas, for the period from October 2020 until December 2022.
I define “correspondence” as including (but not limited to) the following:
- Emails (and their attachments)
- Letters
- Memos
- Briefings
- Research documents
- Notes taken during telephone conversations

A new case seems to have been opened on 20/02/2023 with regards to my request for access to documents above. The number of the new case is 2023/1128.
For the purpose of reducing the administrative burden associated with handling my requests, I would suggest that case 2023/1128 be merged into the existing request above 2023/0118.
