Dear Secretariat General of the European Commission,

Please pass this on to the person who reviews confirmatory applications.

I am filing the following confirmatory application with regards to my access to documents request 'Climate change meetings with Shell 1986-1997', registered under GestDem 2018/1945 on 5 April 2018 by the Commission.

I requested: all documents – including but not limited to minutes, verbatim reports, letters, and presentations – related to meetings during which climate change, the greenhouse effect, and global warming was discussed, held between the European Commission and employees/representatives of the Royal Dutch Shell Group, between 1 January 1986 and 31 December 1997.

The Commission answered that no such documents exist.

However, the reply did not explain whether these documents did not exist because
a) there were no such meetings
b) there were such meetings but the Commission did not document its content in any form
c) there were such meetings, there were minutes, but these have since been destroyed
d) other

I would appreciate it if a more elaborate explanation could be given.

I would also like to ask for a second review of available documents, with specific attention to the fact that these meetings were held in a mostly pre-digital era, and these documents may currently exist in paper form only.

In advance of your efforts, I would like to thank you for them.

A full history of my request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.asktheeu.org/en/request/clim...

Sincerely,
Peter Teffer
