Dear Ms Lignani,

I reply in response to your request of 20 February 2016, submitted to our
Office through asktheeu.org.

Your request has been handled under Regulation 1049/2001 regarding public
access to documents. This is because the information (not documents) that
you requested could, by and large, be extracted through what we refer to
as 'routine operations'. Data and information extractions that can be done
on that basis are considered to fall under the said Regulation.

On the following link, you will find the corresponding information related
to the European Ombudsman herself:

In attachment, you will find a document that contains the information for
the current members of the European Ombudsman's Cabinet. In the course of
internal consultations carried out in relation to the handling of your
request, the Cabinet members here concerned granted their consent for the
disclosure of the personal data that forms part of the said information.
Only the personnel numbers have been redacted, to avoid the risk of
possible misuse.

The relevant former Cabinet members have asked for protection of their
personal data. We are therefore not in a position to disclose information
on the requested salary and allowance payments to those persons. You will,
however, find attached a redacted contract of one of those former Cabinet
members (a partial disclosure for which we have that person's consent).
You will also find information on the concerned persons' missions.

Please also find attached a document with an overview of the relevant
former and current Cabinet members, which includes their corresponding
periods of employment 2014-2015.

Should you wish to contest the non-disclosure of the above-mentioned
personal data, through submission of a confirmatory application under
Article 8 of Regulation 1049/2001, please note that you will have to
demonstrate a specific 'necessity' for receiving that data (cf. Bavarian
Lager decision of the Court of Justice, Case C-28/08P). We are not aware,
I should add, that any such 'necessity', overriding the non-consent of the
data subjects, has so far been successfully demonstrated in relation to
data of the kind here concerned.

Kind regards,

Peter Bonnor
