FARs filed by Cypriot authorities requesting Frontex assistance
Dear European Border and Coast Guard Agency,
In a press release (see link 1) from February of 2022 regarding a visit by Mr Leggeri to Cyprus, it says that “Last year, Cypriot authorities carried out 104 return operations with Frontex’s assistance.”
In order to receive assistance from Frontex and request the support of monitors from Frontex’s pool of agents, a member state has to file a Frontex Application for Returns (FAR).
Furthermore, as per Frontex’s guidelines, “a forced-return monitor must deliver a report to the agency and to all the Member States involved in the given operation” (see link 2).
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
All of the FARs filed by Cypriot authorities requesting Frontex assistance for any of the 104 returns carried out in 2021
All of the reports filed by forced-return monitors assisting with Cyprus return operations of non-EU nationals
