Die Anfrage wurde abgelehnt durch Generalsekretariat der Europäischen Kommission.

Dear Madam, Sir

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

The letter received by the European Commission from the former European Commissioner Neelie Kroes, about media reports on her work for Uber. This letter was received this month, July 2022.

The media reports suggested that Kroes may have broken the principles of the Code of Conduct for the Members of the European Commission, in particular article 11. It is therefore in the public interest that citizens can see how the former Commissioner explains how she applied the Code of Conduct, which demands from Commissioners that they "observe the highest standards of ethical conduct"; "avoid any situation which may give rise to a conflict of interest or which may reasonably be perceived as such"; and that former Commissioners have a "duty to behave with integrity and discretion as regards the acceptance of certain appointments or benefits".

If the Commission is considering whether article 4.1b of Regulation 1049/2001 applies, please consider that it is public knowledge that the European Commission and Mrs Kroes have exchanged letters on this matter. Therefore, her privacy and the integrity of the individual are not undermined if the letter is published (with redaction of personal data such as address and phone number, of course).

Please note I prefer to receive the documents in digital format, not by physical mail.

Sincerely,
Peter Teffer
