Dear Mr Idus,

The Citizens’ Enquiries Unit of the European Parliament (EP) has been
asked to reply to your request for information concerning the official
trips undertaken by Ms Yana Toom during her term in office.

With regard to official trips by MEPs in the performance of their duties,
we would inform you that there are different types of journeys. As the
European Parliament’s plenary sessions, political group and committee
meetings take place in two different European cities (Strasbourg and
Brussels) there are journeys to and from Parliament's places of work or
the venues for meetings of one of its official bodies.

Members are also required to travel in the performance of their official
duties for other purposes, for example, to attend a conference, take part
in a working visit, participate in a meeting of a delegation or in order
to represent the EP.

Finally, there are also trips organised and financed by third parties,
which MEPs are supposed to declare on their profile website. The rules
concerning Members' declarations of attendance at events organised by
third parties were introduced by a Parliament Bureau decision in April
2013 and no declarations exist before this date.

The European Parliament, following Bureau guidelines and Rules of
Procedure, publishes on its website [1]general  information on allowances
(amounts and rules governing allocation of such allowances) but does not
provide detailed records of individual expenses claims, including
supporting documents such as boarding passes or receipts. This
documentation is used only for internal accounting purposes.

We hope this is of interest and thank you for contacting the European
Parliament.

Yours sincerely,

Citizens' Enquiries Unit
