New regulations - number of seats transnational EU parties

Ihre Anfrage war teilweise erfolgreich.

Dear European Parliament,

I read on the "Europe Elects" Tweeter account that
"new regulation says the EU transnational parties need to have 7/751 seats in the European Parliament. "
https://mobile.twitter.com/EuropeElects/...

1) Is this true ?
2) And if it is, where can I find an official document that confirms it ?

3) Hence this would mean the right-wing extremist transnational parties "Alliance for Peace and Freedom" and "Alliance of European National Movements" have now been deregistered ?

Thanks in advance.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Ms Pauillac,

The registration and funding of European political parties is mainly ruled by Regulation (EU, Euratom) No 1141/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 October 2014 on the statute and funding of European Political Parties and European Political Foundations.

https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/...

This regulation, which entered into force for the 2018 financial exercise, was amended by Regulation (EU, Euratom) 2018/673 of 3 May 2018 amending Regulation (EU, Euratom) No 1141/2014 on the statute and funding of European political parties and European political foundations

Both the above regulations provide that registration and funding are conditioned on a minimum representation criteria (see Article 3).

Regulation (EU, Euratom) No 1141/2014 is notably implemented by Commission Delegated Regulation (EU, Euratom) 2015/2401 of 2 October 2015 on the content and functioning of the Register of European political parties and foundations

This latter regulation also sets out representation criteria . Accordingly, Political parties need to be represented in seven Members States (which is not the same as having seven MEPs).

Besides, decisions on the registration of European political parties are now of the remit of the Authority for European Political Parties and European Political Foundations. All regulations on the topic are published on its website together with a lot of useful information.

On the basis of the above, Parliament considers your request as handled and closes the file.

Kind regards,

TU
