Position on laptop ban on flights between EU and US

Die Anfrage wurde abgelehnt durch Generaldirektion Mobilität und Verkehr.

Dear DG Mobility and Transport team,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

On May 17, 2017, Commissioners Bulc and Avramopoulos, representatives of several Member States and representatives of the U.S. government met in Brussels to discuss aviation security and potential new regulation concerning large consumer electronics (such as laptops) on flights between the EU and the US ((http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_STA...).

I kindly ask you to provide me with any documents (especially minutes or summaries) related to that meeting which include or reflect the positions of the Commission, Member States represented at the meeting and the US regarding the carriage and use of large consumer electronics on flights and related documents that contain data, assessments or other information on the need for new regulation or the potential positive/negative impact new regulation or a ban might of certain consumer electronics might have.

Thank you very much for taking the time to process my request!

Yours faithfully,

Mathias Huter

Dear Mr Huter,

We refer to your e-mail dated 22/05/2017 in which you make a request for
access to documents, registered on 31/05/2017 under the above mentioned
reference number.

Your application is currently being handled. However, we will not be in a
position to complete the handling of your application within the time
limit of 15 working days, which expires on 22/06/2017.

An extended time limit is needed because the application concerns
documents held by different Services which must be consulted and part of
the documents requested originate from third parties which requires
further consultation.

Therefore, we have to extend the time limit with 15 working days in
accordance with Article 7(3) of Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 regarding
public access to documents. The new time limit expires on 13/07/2017.

We apologize for this delay and for any inconvenience this may cause.

Yours faithfully,
