Source data used to calculate acceptance rate of Ombudsman's recommendations 2022 & 2023
Dear European Ombudsman,
As part of its annual report, the Ombudsman communicates to the European Parliament an assessment of compliance by EU institutions with its recommendations under its so-called "putting it right" report.
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
- an extract of the database used for tracking recommendations made by the Ombudsman to each EU institution, and the assessment by the Ombudsman of the level of compliance with said recommendations, disaggregated by year and by EU institution.
This data should ideally be provided in its original formatting.
The data should be provided for recommendations made for the years 2022 and 2023. Note that a similar FOI was made for the same documents for the years up to 2022 under reference Ares(2023)4145103.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me for questions, if my request needs clarification.
Yours faithfully,
Anas Ambri

Dear Mr Ambri,
By e-mail of 12 June 2024, you requested public access to “an extract of
the database used for tracking recommendations made by the Ombudsman to
each EU institution, and the assessment by the Ombudsman of the level of
compliance with said recommendations”. You specified that your request
covers the years 2022 and 2023.
Your request was registered on 14 June 2024 under reference number
Ares(2024)4308800.
We have dealt with your request in accordance with Regulation (EC) No
1049/2001[5][1] regarding public access to European Parliament, Council
and Commission documents as well as the Decision of the European Ombudsman
on the handling of requests for public access to documents[6][2].
We have identified one document as falling under the scope of your
request. We have decided to grant you full access to this document. A copy
of the document is attached to this e-mail.
We note that your request merely refers to “recommendations”. However, for
the sake of completeness, on the table you will also find the data
covering the Ombudsman’s solution proposals and suggestions made in 2022
and 2023. In some of the cases on the list, our internal assessment of the
follow-up to the Ombudsman’s recommendations, solution proposals or
suggestions is still pending. These figures are marked in red.
In 2023, there were also six further cases where the Ombudsman made a
recommendation or a solution proposal but these inquiries are still
ongoing. Since we are not in a position to assess the institutions’
compliance with these findings yet, these cases are not included in the
list of cases on the table.
I trust that the above answers your questions. You are welcome to contact
us with any remaining requests for clarifications you may have.
Yours sincerely,
Eija Salonen
