DGCOMM VISSEM, Europäisches Parlament

Dear Mr Mullan,

Thank you for your message.

Further to your request of 31 January 2018, we would like to inform you
that a total of 3,449 visitors have been officially invited by the 11
Irish MEPs to the European Parliament between 22 May 2014 and 31 January

In 2017, 34 sponsored groups coming from Ireland were invited by the Irish
MEPs, representing more than 1000 visitors.

We would like to provide you with some information on the Parliament's
visitors' programme.

The Parliament welcomes over 300,000 visitors every year, from the EU and
beyond, to its Brussels and Strasbourg premises. These visitors come in
around 7,000 groups, the majority of which are invited by MEPs. Such
groups receive a financial contribution by the Parliament, contributing to
the payment of travel cost and meals.

Each MEP may sponsor up to 110 visitors a year (only 55 visitors during an
electoral year, as it was the case in 2014), in groups of no fewer than 10
visitors. Members may invite up to 5 groups per year to Strasbourg or

Sponsored groups are received by an EP staff member, who give them a
briefing on the European Union and the Parliament. They also meet one or
more Members of Parliament and visit the chamber's public gallery. The
groups are also invited to visit other EP visitors facilities
(Parlamentarium in Brussels and Strasbourg, House of the European History
in Brussels).

We hope this information is useful.

Kind regards,
