The Good Friday Agreement

We're waiting for Abdul Hai to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear European Council,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

Can you publish any documents you have in relation to how the European Union helped with The Good Friday Agreement? A lot of people say that the European Union is lying about it's part.

Also can you publish all documents explaining how The Good Friday Agreement is threatened by Brexit?

Yours faithfully,

Abdul Hai

Dear Mr. Hai,

Following your application to receive information on the role of the
European Union regarding  the "Good Friday"- Agreement and the impact of
Brexit on it,  we would first of all like to draw your attention to

paragraph 11 of the European Council's (Art.50) Guidelines for Brexit
negotiations which stipulate that :

"The Union has consistently supported the goal of peace and reconciliation
enshrined in the Good Friday Agreement in all its parts, and continuing to
support and protect the achievements, benefits and commitments of the
Peace Process will remain of paramount importance. In view of the unique
circumstances on the island of Ireland, flexible and imaginative solutions
will be required, including with the aim of avoiding a hard border, while
respecting the integrity of the Union legal order. In this context, the
Union should also recognise existing bilateral agreements and arrangements
between the United Kingdom and Ireland which are compatible with EU law."
