Subject: RE: Joint meeting request EDF, Arcelor Mittal, Fortum, UPM - new study
results on hydrogen
Dear Riccardo, and Aleksandra,
I refer my message and meeting request on behalf of EDF, Arcelor Mittal, Fortum
and UPM to discuss outlook and views on enabling policy framework for
hydrogen.
I wonder if you would be willing to discuss the recent report we have undertaken
with Aurora Energy Research in order to positively contribute to the EU debate
on hydrogen.
It is my understanding that all companies will be key contributors to the
Hydrogen IPCEI and other key transformative projects the EU will undertake to
achieve set goals.
Kindly let me know if you would be available for such a meeting and when. I
proposed some dates below, but we are willing to adjust our schedules to make
this possible meeting.
best regards,

Subject: Joint meeting request - new study results on hydrogen
Dear Aleksandra and Riccardo,
I am approaching you on behalf of
a coalition of four leading European energy
producers and industrial energy consumers to request for a meeting about
hydrogen-related policies.
ArcelorMittal, EDF, Fortum and UPM are all
committed to EU’s 2050 climate-neutrality objective and taking significant steps
in bringing up the EU decarbonisation ambition into concrete hydrogen use-
cases.
Together, we have commissioned
a study from Aurora Energy Research to
contribute to the European discussion on how to create an enabling policy
framework for hydrogen. We believe that this discussion should be guided by the
aim of meeting Europe’s needed volumes of hydrogen to decarbonise hard-to-
abate sectors in a timely manner. The study will be published very soon.
The study analysed three technological scenarios/pathways for hydrogen
production as well as a set of policy measures supporting hydrogen supply
and demand. One of the key modelling results is that
all available sources of
renewable and decarbonised electricity are needed to ramp up hydrogen
production by electrolysis to meet the demand in a timely and cost-efficient
way. The study also finds that given the current cost competitiveness gap,
policy
measures will have an extremely important role in driving hydrogen EU
industrial development in the next decade.
Representatives of these four companies would like to discuss with you the
findings of the report and the stemming policy implications. We hope to bring
new ideas and data to support the on-going legislative preparation work on
hydrogen and discuss your views on the topic. Would you be available for a
Teams meeting on some of the following time slots?
· Monday 17 May between 16h-17h CET
· Tuesday 18 May between 11h and 12h CET
· Tuesday 18 May between 14h and 17h at a time most convenient to you
· If these are not convenient, we are happy to search for alternative dates.
I look forward to your response and a discussion about this important topic.
Best regards,
