Subject: NBT Platform - request for a meeting conc. the EC guidance document on NBTs
Importance: High
Dear
,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Chairman of the New Plant Breeding techniques (NBT) Platform,
with regard to the expected publication of the EU guidance document aiming at clarifying
the legal status of NBTs.
We would like to use the opportunity of the European Commission inter-services consultation
to ask your
availability to meet with you and discuss the implications of this guidance document for EU agri-food
actors and for companies involved in Research & Development activities in this sector: for that
purpose, you will find attached the letter signed by
The NBT Platform pleads for the rapid publication of this document. We also fear that the possible
classification of NBTs under the EU GMO legislation would have a negative impact on jobs, R&D and
economic growth in the EU, in case the companies active in these sectors are forced to abandon all
activities, due to higher regulatory costs required for authorisation purposes.
We would be glad to present the abovementioned arguments, which are also outlined in the ‘information
fact sheet’ accompanying this letter.
We thank you in advance for the attention you may give to this demand and remain at your disposal should
you have questions concerning this request.
Best regards,
On behalf of
