NOTE TO THE FILE
Subject: Meeting with Cefic on chemicals policy on 19 May 2017
Participants:
Marco Mensink, Director-General, Cefic and Aaron McLoughlin, Cefic
Peter Handley and Henrik Laursen, SG.D3
Items for discussion
Cefic informed about a study on 'feedstock recycling' undertaken by the contractor
Dechema on behalf of Cefic that soon would be brought to conclusion. Cefic and its
membership see a strategic interest in looking at options to stay business-relevant also
when circular economy approaches begin to take real effect. Current production builds on
primary materials, but if feedstock recycling could be possible in large scale it would
bring huge potential opportunities to business and environmental protection.
Cefic also informed about concerns regarding an on-going case on harmonised
classification of TiO2 under CLP which could lead to rather significant impacts due to
the wide-spread use of the substance.
We took note of the presented information and informed Cefic that follow-up action to
the Circular Economy action plan was on track and invited Cefic to engage in the on-
going consultation undertaken by ENV/GROW in preparation of the announced
document on the interface between chemicals, products and waste.
