Subject:
informal meeting with secretariat INTA on Indonesia, 22 March
FYI
At INTA secretariat's request
and in view of an EP delegation's visit to Indonesia in
May (N.B. declared objective: facilitation of the FTA negotiations),  I was asked to provide a debriefing,
main issues and state of play of negotiations, main interlocutors in this country and suggested to discuss
with our delegation in Jakarta in this regard. There seems to be no regular communication between the
rapporteur for Indonesia and the INTA secretariat.
I provided a debriefing and referred my interlocutor to the reports of the FTA (public) as well as the
report of the Working Group on Trade and Investment distributed to the EP. I highlighted Indonesia's
sustained ambition to negotiate and FTA and? on the other hand, the persisting high number of trade
barriers- which we expect to be dealt with in order to avoid that any FTA outcome is nullified.
I invited my interlocutor to inform Unit A2 of any future request for information.
