Meeting with Transport & Environment, 26 APril 2018 - Report
On 26 April 2018, DG TRADE
 (C2) and
 (G3)] met with representatives of
Transport & Environment (T&E), an umbrella organisation of European environmental groups focusing
on energy and transport issues [

].
The meeting, held at the request of T&E, focused on the following issues:
- EU-Indonesia FTA negotiations: T&E asked for an update on the next steps in the negotiations,
wondering in particular on the possible interaction with announcements on retaliatory measures by the
Indonesian government recently reported by the Indonesian press as a response to the EP proposal to
exclude biofuels derived from palm oil - but not from other vegetable oils - from the scope of the recast
of the EU Renewable Energy Directive.

DG TRADE gave an overview on the EU-Indonesia FTA talks, recalling that palm oil is an important
product in the negotiations and that discussions are ongoing on how to best address it in a realistic and
effective manner, and on the state of play in the RED trilogue.
