Subject: Squaring the Circular Economy and PolyStyreneLoop demoplant

Geachte heer Timmermans,

I am contacting you on behalf of the Polystyrene Cooperative. I enjoyed our brief
conversation during the Eni after 6 event on 4 June 2018, where we spoke about the
industry-need for long-term regulatory certainty.

Following from our conversation, I would like to introduce the PolyStyreneLoop project,
which is our industry’s closed-loop solution for the recycling of polystyrene (PS)
insulation foam waste. This solution will be demonstrated by a demo plant in The
Netherlands (Terneuzen), proving that our industry is committed to working towards
solutions to reach a Circular Economy. As such, the project was included as a best
practice example in the Staff Working Documents of the Plastics Strategy and the CWP
Interface Communication and officially launched in Brussels on May 23.

I would very much appreciate discussing with you the future of the PolystyreneLoop
project. The Cooperative would like to expand the scope of the project and build plants
in other European countries to further enable this recycling solution in all of the EU.
However, this would require a serious investment from the side of industry and the
sector is now considering setting up a fund to finance part of this. We would like to
discuss with you what the possibilities are for such an approach and how the
Commission and industry could work together around the circular economy.

Would you (or one of your colleagues) perhaps have any availability for a brief meeting
in June or July?

Bij voorbaat veel dank!

Met vriendelijke groet / kind regards,
Polystyrene Loop Coöperatief U.A
