Call with Cefic, 13 January 2021
Cefic explained that they support  Green Deal, as energy intensive industry they feel
responsibility. Cefic wants to play an active role in the green transformation but will need
support to pull it all together as it’s quite a package – essentially requiring to get circular,
sustainable, decarbonized and digital all at the same time. Cefic members
 asked a
number of questions concerning chemical strategy, green and competition, allowed
types/degrees of cooperation (e.g. on data sharing, roundtable etc.), ETS, etc.
MV took interest in the issues raised and explained that only some of them are within her
responsibility and on those she is willing to engage. On the situations where competition
law may stand in the way of some industry cooperation, MV invited Cefic to come back
with very specific examples of such cooperation and promised to put them in contact with
DG COMP to discuss the matter with a view of providing guidance as necessary.
