Overview of two roundtable discussions to be hosted by the Equality,
Inclusion and Diversity Unit on 23 and 25 March, together with a quiz

The Equality, Inclusion and Diversity Unit will hold two roundtable discussions next week: the first on 23 March, to mark the
International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and the second on 25 March to mark World Autism Awareness
Day.

Roundtable discussion on combating racism
The meeting of 23 March on ‘Tackling racism in Europea literary approach - and action being taken by the EP’ will be the
first event ever organised by the European Parliament to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
- in line with the recommendation contained in the roadmap accompanying the Papadimoulis report to the Bureau on
diversities other than gender. The meeting is intended to open the debate on racial discrimination in our institution and
manifest our willingness to embrace the racial diversity of staff members.
The keynote speaker will be 
, a novelist and essayist. Other speakers will include Vice-President Dimitrios
Papadimoulis, Chair of the High-Level Group on Gender Equality and Diversity, Evin Incir, MEP and Co-Chair of the European
Parliament’s Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup (ARDI), 
, founder of #Diasporavote, and Kristian Knudsen,
Director-General of DG PERS.

An autism awareness event
The Equality, Inclusion and Diversity Unit invites you to a second event, to be held on 25 March, this time to mark World Autism
Awareness Day.
The meeting, entitled ‘Addressing the impact of autism at work’, aims to open the debate on equality and inclusion in
Parliament and will address autism issues at the workplace and in the community, as well as Parliament’s commitment to
protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.
Guests will include 
 (Head of Unit EUVP), former supervisor of a trainee with autism; and 
, former member of the EP's Disability and Health Support Group and parent of a child with autism. A video on the life of
, a young man with autism, will also be shown.
