A physical meeting between DG Henrik Hololei, Joachim Luecking, Joshua Salsby, Dominik Piotrowski
(MOVE) - and - Kim Stollar and Brain Davey (Boeing), on 16 June 2021 at 11:00.
Discussions covered:
•
Airbus/Boeing WTO dispute. Boeing very much welcomed the announced truce in the WTO dispute
between Airbus and Boeing. This truce will enable both companies to focus on key challenges such as
decarbonisation and digitalisation rather than legal battles.
•
COVID-19 certificate and restart of travel. Boeing praised the EU’s action with regard to the opening
of the internal market, especially the EU’s work on the COVID-19 digital certificate. Boeing updated on
its work with regard to end-to-end travel journey modelling (TRIPS model) whose aim is to ensure
COVID-19 safety along the whole journey and detection of any vulnerabilities and bottlenecks at airports
caused by the sanitary measures (reduced capacity). Boeing stressed the complementarity of its actions
with the work done in the context of the EASA/ECDC protocol.

Passenger screening (COVID-19). Boeing informed that they had published a white paper on
passenger screening (“Covid-19 screening strategy comparison”).

New types of aircraft – Boeing very keen on SAF as sees it as an important bridging fuel. Boeing would
be keen to be involved in the SAF Alliance. Boeing will run a SAF-demonstrator that will fly on a 75%
blend. Boeing suggested that hydrogen planes could come into operation not earlier than in 2050s.
According to Boeing, this timing will also be driven by the deployment of fuelling infrastructure.

Drones – Boeing closely following the regulatory developments in Europe. Boeing expressed their
interest to be involved in the preparation of the Drone Strategy 2.0
