Banif sale to Santander
Dear European Central Bank,
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
- Any correspondence between the European Central Bank, namely Mr. Danièle Nouy and Mr. Vitor Constâncio, and the Portuguese Government, particularly the current and the former Minister of Finance, and the Portuguese Central Bank (Banco de Portugal) regarding the resolution of Banif and its sale to Santander.
- Any correspondence between the European Central Bank, namely Mr. Danièle Nouy and Mr. Vitor Constâncio, and Santander representatives;
- A list of meetings between ECB officials and Santander, concerning Banif and its minutes.

With regard to your public access to documents in relation to the resolution and sale of BANIF, we should like to inform you that the ECB is finalising the reply to your request.
The ECB is considering the release of the documents in close cooperation with national authorities and in the context of another similar request made to the ECB. The ECB decision-making bodies need to be involved and this process can only be finalised in the course of the next week.
We therefore would ask for your understanding of a delay of a few days before you receive our formal response to your request.
