CF EU EPA GI Negotiating Mandate, text and related correspondence of the EU

Waiting for an internal review by Trade of their handling of this request.

Dear Trade (TRADE),

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

The mandate of the European Commission regarding the ongoing negotiations on the implementation of a GI system in the framework of the CARIFORUM-EU EPA.

Article 145 CF EU EPA provides for a rendez-vous clause according to which no later than 1 January 2014 the Cariforum countries should have established a system of protection for GIs. On that date, the EU and Cariforum should have entered into negotiation for a fully fledged agreement on GIs. The current GI provisions also aim at fostering cooperation to identify and promote GIs in Cariforum countries via the active involvement of the Trade and Development Committee established by the EPA.

Which CF states have established a system of protection for GIs no later than 1 January 2014(?) and when will EU and CARIFORUM enter into negotiation for a fully fledged agreement on GIs, as stated in article 145 CF EU EPA?

Yours faithfully,

Joyce Naar
