Competition in the automotive industry (Telematics / Vehicle Data)

We're waiting for Chris Tillmann to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Competition,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

European Vehicles generate huge amounts of data these days. This data is currently exclusively in the hands of the vehicle manufacturers. They use their informational advantage to offer additional services and track their customers directly to their workshops and dealerships. This does not allow any fair competition between the different players of the automotive industry, including independent workshops, parts dealers and so on. Without those companies their would not be any competition for the vehicle manufacturer and the driver would not have any choice. Those manufacturers would dictate the market and especially its prices.

Some initiatives like AFCAR (Alliance for Freedom of Car Repair) already exist in Brussels. Even though there is no transparency at all for all of the people working in this sector and in competition to the vehicle manufacturers. Please share any sort of update or statement on this topic because many people and the market in general could massively suffer by a bad decision in this case.

Thank you very much.

Yours faithfully,
Chris Tillmann
