contacts with lobbying firm GPlus, Gazprom, Kremlin

The request was successful.

Dear Energy (ENER),

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as
developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting access to any
correspondence exchanged with lobby firm Gplus or with its clients
Gazprom and the Kremlin regarding the adoption of the EU's third
energy package on 19 September 2007 or its subsequent implementation.

I am also requesting access to any correspondence exchanged between
these parties concerning the Russian-Ukrainian gas crisis in 2009.

I am a foreign relations journalist covering Russia and I want to
examine claims that Russia is putting strong pressure on the EU
institutions to dilute this law.

I am also examining claims that Gplus exerts undue influence on the EU
commission due to its track record of hiring senior EU officials.

I believe it is in the public interest to see how the commission copes
with the efforts of a influential state/commercial entity to alter a
piece of legislation.

Please send the documents to me in electronic format.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Rettman

Dear Mr. Rettmann,

We refer to your e-mail dated 03/0/2012 in which you make a request for access to documents, registered on the same day under the above mentioned reference number.

Your application is currently being handled. However, we will not be in a position to complete the handling of your application within the time limit of 15 working days, which expires on 24/07/2012.

An extended time limit is needed as your application as in order to retrieve the documents requested, large files have to be examined and part of the documents requested originate from third parties which have to be consulted.

Therefore, we have to extend the time limit with 15 working days in accordance with Article 7(3) of Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 regarding public access to documents. The new time limit expires on 14/08/2012.

We apologise for this delay and for any inconvenience this may cause.

Yours faithfully,
