European Green Deal
Dear Environment,
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
To whom it may concern,
We are interested in the European Commission’s plans with respect to the “European Green Deal”.
We are aware that the overarching goal of the European Green Deal is to achieve Climate Neutrality by the year 2050 in the European Union and among its member states. In what has been published about this plan so far, it becomes evident that it apparently will include a Carbon Trading Scheme and that it will, according to the European Union’s official website, affect “investing in environmentally-friendly technologies, supporting industry to innovate, rolling out cleaner, cheaper and healthier forms of private and public transport, decarbonizing the energy sector, ensuring buildings are more energy efficient and working with international partners to improve global environmental standards“.
Yet so far, we were not able to find any policies or laws that contain clear mechanisms though which this overarching goal of Climate Neutrality is supposed to be achieved.
Thus, following Regulation 1049/2001 we like to inquire whether the European Commission is or was ever in contact with interest organizations (as registered with the European Transparency Register) about this topic. More specifically, does the Commission have any protocols of meetings, e-mails or other communication regarding the following topics:
- the future version of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and which economic sectors it will encompass,
- the enforcement mechanisms of the EU ETS,
- which agency or country will be responsible for monitoring and penalizing non-compliance (by EU member-states and/or companies),
We would very much appreciate greater insight into these issues.
Thank you very much.
Yours faithfully,
Johannes Brannath, Anika Welter, Bettina Siebler
