Future "generative AI" standards and regulations

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
1) What role does the EU envisage playing at the international level to promote standards and regulations concerning generative IA ?
2) What initiatives does the EU plan to set to support responsible research and development (R&D) of generative IA in Europe ?

Dear Sir,
I am writing in reply to your email of 13 June 2023 to the European Data
Protection Supervisor (EDPS), regarding your specific request.
The EDPS is an independent authority that primarily deals with supervision
of the processing of personal data by the [1]European Union's institutions
and bodies. We also advise them on new EU legislative proposals and
initiatives relating to the protection of personal data, and we cooperate
with relevant actors in the field.
As you may know, the European Commission tabled a proposal for an EU
regulatory framework on artificial intelligence (AI) in April 2021. The
Council adopted its general approach in December 2022. The European
Parliament adopted its negotiating position during the June 2023 Plenary
Session, which set their position for trilogue negotiations with the
Council on the proposal.
Our competence, does not directly relate to the substance of your request.
I would, therefore, advise you to direct your specific questions to the
European Commission, and in particular Directorate-General for
Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT). You can find
