Joint Referral Platform

The request was partially successful.

Dear Migration and Home Affairs,

The Commission Communication 2016/230 of 20 April 2016 mentions a "Joint Referral Platform" that is being developed by the internet industry
with full Europol involvement [1]. The document also mentions that €10 million that have been earmarked for both the Joint Referral Platform and the EU-wide "Empowering Civil Society" Programme.

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting all relevant drafts and documents in relation to the "Joint Referral Platform", including but not limited to:

- the launch of the "Joint Referral Platform";
- the involvement of Europol and Europol's Internet Referral Unit (IRU) involvement in the "Joint Referral Platform";
- statistics related to flagged content and content that has been removed;
- statistics related to the follow-up by law enforcement after content has been removed;
- agreed on goals and (legal) principles;
- minutes of meetings with industry;
- the list of companies from the internet industry partaking in the "Joint Referral Platform";
- the exchange of e-mails between industry and the Commission with regard to the "Joint Referral Platform";
- documents related to the costs involved;

Yours faithfully,

Dear Migration and Home Affairs,

I am writing to request an internal review of the handling of our freedom of information request of 28 April 2016 regarding the "Joint Referral Platform" (Ref: Gestdem 2016/2692). We have received several responses requesting for delays in your response. In the last reply (dated 1st June 2016), it is stated that the new time limit would expire on 27/06/2016. However, we have neither received any document nor a notification explaining why the deadline would need to be extended again.

Accordingly, I would like to know why our request has not been handled in due time.
Thank you very much in advance.

Yours faithfully,
Maryant Fernández, on behalf of EDRi
