Dear Madam, Sir,

Please pass this on to the person who reviews confirmatory applications.

I am filing the following confirmatory application with regards to my access to documents request, which was registered on 13/08/2018 under reference number GestDem 2018/4359.

My request was about seven meetings Vice-President Jyrki Katainen had with interest groups. In its reply, the Commission said it had identified a number of documents, most of them email exchanges, and one document related to the meeting with the RELX Group which had only a very short summary of the meeting - but none of these documents were notes or minutes.

I asked for all documents related to the meetings. The Commission's reply suggests that during and after the meetings, no documents were created in relation to the meetings.

I find this hard to believe. Were no minutes or other records made of any of the seven meetings? Did the commissioner or one of his cabinet members not write down a single thing during any of the seven meetings?

This contradicts what VP Katainen himself has said in an interview: “When I have a private beer with friends, I don't take notes what my friend is saying to me. But if somebody is lobbying ... me, then of course there is somebody from the cabinet always who is taking notes”.

I therefore would like to ask the secretary-general to double-check if indeed all documents have been identified, and assess whether they can be made public as part of my request.

All the best,
Peter Teffer
