Dear Tazu Walden,
We acknowledge receipt of your request and will get back to you in due course.
With kind regards
Enrico Gagliardi
Dear Tazu Walden,
Reference is made to your request for access to documents submitted to
ESMA on 27 June 2024 pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1049 in which you
requested access to "[...] any documents such as meeting minutes,
briefings, email exchanges, summary documents, relating to [...]" a vast
series of meetings included in your message.
We would like to draw your attention to the scope covered by your request
which, similarity to another request you sent to ESMA on 4 April 2024 and
subsequently processed by the Authority, covers a significant number of
meetings. The need to perform a complete search with a view to identify
possible documents captured by your request requires the involvement of
several Officers within a Department of ESMA.
This process, together with the individual assessment of the requested
documents against the possible application of the exceptions referred to
in Article 4 of Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001, would take additional days
in order to be completed.
Therefore, in light of the above and in accordance with Article 7(3) of
Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001, we hereby notify you of the intention to
extend the deadline to reply laid down in this Regulation by 15 working
days.
Please rest assured that should the request be processed earlier, we will
revert to you before the above deadline.
With kind regards
Enrico Gagliardi
Dear Enrico Gagliardi,
Hope you are well. Thanks very much for taking the time to fulfill my request.
Yours sincerely,
Tazu Walden
Thank you for your email. I am out of office and I will be back on 22
July 2024.
Should you have questions relating to Access to Documents, please address
those to [email address]. As regards Ethics issues, please send your
queries to [email address].
With kind regards
Enrico Gagliardi

Dear Tazu Walden,
We are writing with reference to your request for access to documents submitted to ESMA on 27 June 2024 pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001. Specifically, you asked to get access to "any documents such as meeting minutes, briefings, email exchanges, summary documents" related to the list of meetings you provided concerning "sustainable finance/ESG fund names/SFDR etc." You also requested access to "any documents of the same nature from more recent meetings regarding sustainable finance between the chair of ESMA and any of the [...] companies/trade associations" mentioned in your request.
Please find attached the documents that fall within the scope of your request and which comprise all documents identified on a best effort basis as relevant, considering also that the ESMA Chair did not meet with all the entities listed in your request. In this context, please also note that certain parts thereof have been redacted because they either:
- contain personal data deemed irrelevant to your request, making their processing disproportionate; or
- address topics outside the scope of your request.
Additionally, please note that the minutes included in the attached documents do not constitute formal, agreed minutes of meetings with industry representatives or MEPs. These documents are purely internal and reflect the perspectives of ESMA staff members on points discussed with the ESMA Chair during such meetings.
We trust that the disclosure of the requested documents fulfils your request in full.
Kind regards,
Chrysi Raftogianni
