Possible interactions between Robert-Jan Smits and Frontiers

The request was refused by Research and Innovation.

Dear Research and Innovation,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

Records of any possible meetings or communications between EU special envoy Robert-Jan Smits and the scholarly publisher Frontiers Media SA, in the years 2017 and 2018.
In particular please check for any meetings, phone/video calls or emails between Mr Smits and these senior Frontiers executives:
- Kamila Markram
- Frederick (or Fred) Fenter
- Henry Markram
as well as any other Frontiers representatives.
I understand the contents of Mr Smit's work emails, phone calls and meetings might be protected. Hence I requests a summary of when such meetings took place, and which Frontiers representatives were met. Same for emails and phone calls: Just dates and names of correspondents.

Yours faithfully,

Leonid Schneider

Dear EC ARES NOREPLY,
My suspicion is that you intentionally delay releasing the information until after the implementation strategy of Plan S is announced.
Robert-Jan Smits previously said (as verified by witnesses) that he met Kamila Markram only once, at ESOF 2018 conference panel. That is not true, I found two Brussels conferences from 2017 where both spoke.
27 June 2017 https://sciencebusiness.net/events/new-w...
3 July 2017 https://ec.europa.eu/info/events/shaping...
Hence, I request that you drop the delay tactics and release the list of all occasions when RJ Smits met Frontiers representatives in 2017 and 2018.

Yours sincerely,

Leonid Schneider

Dear Research and Innovation,

Please pass this on to the person who reviews confirmatory applications.

I am filing the following confirmatory application with regards to my access to documents request 'Possible interactions between Robert-Jan Smits and Frontiers'.

The email subject lines as you released them indicate possible illegal lobbying activities from industry and maybe even institutional corruption. Frontiers business interests and their lobbyists enjoy no privacy protection here.
Please release all emails in full, including the names of all involved.
The email lists also indicates a number of emails are missing, please check again. Eg, there are replies, but the original emails which were replied to, are not listed.
