RE-use/recycling of medical devices in hospitals

We're waiting for Villa Emma to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Secretariat General of the European Commission,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

We have a question concerning the recycling of the medical equipment in the operational blocs in hospitals. The directive Council Directive 93/42/EEC concerning medical devices is bases for the current practices, but from the environmental perspective this is not sustainable. We would like to know if there has been a revision of the Directive from the perspective of re-using or recycling certain medical devices. Secondly, we would like to know if the waste directive has specific regulations on medical devices.

Thank you in advance,

Yours faithfully,

H. Soosaar

Secretariat General of the European Commission
