European Commission decides to second OLAF Director-General to Italy’s Customs and Monopoly Agency | EU Commission – Press
Posted 1 day ago
Following a request by the government of the Republic of Italy, the European Commission has today decided to second Mr Giovani Kessler, Director-General of the European Union’s anti-fraud office (“OLAF”), to Italy’s Customs and Monopoly Agency. Mr Kessler is being seconded in the interest of the service under Article 38 of the EU Staff Regulations. To ensure business continuity, and in line with a Commission Decision of 13 July 2005, Mr Nicholas Ilett will be acting Director-General of OLAF as of 16 October and until the appointment of the new Director-General, which is expected to happen early 2018. Mr Ilett, a British national, has worked in OLAF since he joined the Commission in 2002. Since then, he has led several of OLAF’s Directorates and has also been an acting Director-General of OLAF in 2010.

Dear Mr Dohle,
We refer to your request for access to the documents relating to the
secondment of Mr Giovanni Kessler. This request was registered under the
above-mentioned reference number on 20 October 2017.
This request will be dealt with as quickly as possible. However, since the
documents covered by your request include third-party documents and
contain personal data, we have to carry out a series of consultations
before giving the reply.
For this reason, we will not be able to reply within the deadline set out
in paragraph 1 of Article 7 of Regulation No 1049/2001. We must therefore,
in accordance with paragraph 3 of this Article, extend the period for the

Thank you very much for your understanding,

Dear Mr Dohle,

On 5 December we replied to your request for access to documents (GestDem
2017/6066) relating to the secondment of Mr Giovanni Kessler.

Given that a number of written signatures appeared in these documents, I
attach a revised redacted set of documents which I would ask you to use
instead in order to protect the individuals' personal data.

I would also ask that the versions which currently appear on the Ask the
EU website are replaced.

Yours sincerely,

Susan Panter
