Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
the written observations of the Council and of the Commission in Opinion 1/17 (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada, of the one part, and the European Union and its Member States, of the other part (CETA))

We refer to your request for access to documents, under Regulation (EC) No
1049/2001, received on 7 December 2021 and registered on 8 December, under
reference: GestDem2021/7969.
You have requested “… the written observations of the Council and of the
Commission in Opinion 1/17 (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement
between Canada, of the one part, and the European Union and its Member
States, of the other part (CETA))”.
Regarding the Commission’s written observations, we are pleased to inform
you that they have already been made public, following earlier requests
for access to documents under Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001. Accordingly,

Please note that the handwritten signature of the Commission's officials
(on the last page) have been redacted. This information constitutes
personal data that must be protected under the exception provided for in
Article 4(1)(b) of Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 in accordance also with
the European Union legislation regarding the protection of personal data
(Regulation (EC) No 45/2001).

With regard to the Council’s written observations, the Commission has to
consult this party according to Article 4(4) of Regulation 1049/2001,
which provides that the institution shall consult the third party with a
view to assessing whether an exception in paragraph 1 of 2 is applicable.
Therefore, the Legal Service will carry out the consultation procedure and
send you a separate reply concerning to this part of your request.
In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 regarding public access to
European Parliament, Council and Commission documents, your application
will be handled within 15 working days. The time limit will expire on 7^th
January 2022. You will be informed in due course, in case this deadline
needs to be extended.
Finally, kindly note that the "AsktheEU.org" website is a private website
which has no link with any institution of the European Union. Therefore,
the European Commission cannot be held accountable for any technical
issues or problems linked to the use of this system. Hence, the European
Commission is not responsible for any possible processing of personal data
