Release of EU Social Justice Index
Dear Mr Italianer,
This week, the Bertelsmann Stiftung, one of Germany’s leading independent think tanks, released its
EU
Social Justice Index 2015.
The Social Justice Index
compares all 28 EU countries across six dimensions: Poverty prevention,
equitable education, labor market access, social cohesion and non-discrimination, health, as well as
intergenerational justice.
The comparison shows:
Children and youth have been hit the hardest by the European economic and
debt crisis. Despite economic recovery, the
gap between young and old is growing and the
social
divide between Northern and Southern Europe remains immense. Although slight upward trends can
be seen in the labor market in many EU countries, these do not by any means constitute a comprehensive
turnaround in matters of social justice after years of decline.
