Flash Report: BUSINESS EUROPE Japan network meeting-17 November
Flash Report: BUSINESS EUROPE Japan network meeting
17 November 2015
was invited to participate in the Business Europe Japan Network meeting on 17th November. He
provided an update on the EU-Japan FTA negotiations and the next steps.
The following questions were asked:
Danish Industry Association: Will the TPP be a floor or rather a ceiling of the EU-Japan FTA? The TPP
does not same to be ambitious enough on many products e.g. pork, which is of great interest to Danish
companies. Are our deals with Canada and Vietnam better from what these two countries offered in the
TPP context? Do we have solid grounds to request Japan to give us more? What about pharmaceutical
sector in the negotiations?
MEDEF: What about Procurement and the elimination of OSC? We need reciprocal market access. What
about GIs? Will Japan protect all EU GIs?
ESF: Where are we on services? Are we going to give Japan an offer comparable with CETA? What
about insurance, postal services? Where are we on investment including investment protection and the
ISDS? Will the ISDS slow down the negotiations? How can we speed up the approval process of FTAs in
general? Translation and the whole approval process in the EU lasts too long. It is not credible to deliver
FTAs after 7 years.
COSIR: Where do we stand when it comes to medical devices?
BE: Where are you with regard to the RoO negotiations? Do you plan to have the same approach as in
the context of the TTIP negotiations?
Next meeting of the BUSINESS EUROPE Japan network will take place early next year.
Best regards,
