Subject:
additional information request to Scheveninen group
Dear

I would like to thank you for sending us the Joint Recommendation for
the 2018 discard plans. STECF has started evaluating the Joint
Recommendations for the 2018 discard plans. The report is not yet
available.
However, having followed the discussions in the expert working group,
our preliminary assessment is that the following information is missing:
5.1.3 Nephrops caught with trawl gears in area IV (netgrid)
May I kindly ask you to provide information on the numbers of
vessels, catch etc. for Nephrops grounds outside the Farne Deeps,
using the template provided by STECF.
5.1.4 Sole (undersized only) caught with trawl gears in area IVc
We would appreciate if it would be possible to clarify the location
of the nursery areas referred to in the JR (if at all applicable for
area IVc).
5.1.5 Fish bycatch in pots and fyke nets (FPO, FYK) in area IIIa and
IV
Please submit fleet and fishery information for all fleets that
potentially benefit from this exemption, using the STECF
template.
5.2.5. Whiting and cod caught using bottom trawls <100mm (TR2)
As it has now become evident that not only French fishermen use
the de minimis exemption, we would need to know whether the

rational and studies presented in Annex E also apply to other
fleets.

It is important to present the full picture to STECF in order for
them to give us advice that takes into account all the information
available. We therefore kindly ask the Scheveningen group to
provide the missing information by the end June 2017, so that the
additional data can be taken into account by the STECF plenary
which will take place from 10 July onwards.

Best regards
