Orgalime - Trade Policy Working - 17 January 2017 - report
On 17 January 2017, the undersigned met with the Orgalime's Trade Policy Group and
gave a presentation on the state of play of our trade initiatives in South and South East
Asia as well as Australia and New Zealand.
In the Q&A session, Orgalime members raised the following issues: out of scope
encouragement to be more forward looking in our FTA negotiations to
ensure that FTA tariff preferences are not nullified by new standards introduced by FTA
partners (citing the Korea FTA experience).

Orgalime, the European Engineering Industries Association, speaks for
41 trade federations representing the mechanical, electrical, electronic,
metalworking & metal articles industries of 24 European countries. The
industry employs some 10.9 million people in the EU and in 2015
accounted for more than €1,900 billion of annual output. The industry
accounts for over a quarter of manufacturing output and a third of the
manufactured exports of the European Union.
We are organizing our bi-annual meeting of the Trade Policy Working
group in Brussels on 17 January 2017. We would be extremely pleased if
you could be available to join us at this occasion to give an update on the
state of play of negotiations with India, Indonesia, Philippines and
Australia. Your intervention could be planned for around 11 a.m.
