Minutes – Visit of Vice-President Andrus Ansip to Arago, 14 
March 2018
 
The visit started by a meeting with Chris Boos, CEO of Arago, and 
 
 of Arago. Marie Frenay, CAB-Ansip, accompanied the Vice-President. 
Main points of the discussion:  
Mr Boos and 
 highlighted: 
-          Regulatory fragmentation as a major obstacle to investments  
-          Importance of “quality” of data, not so much “quantity” – need for data sets that 
describe the “now”, there is a limit to how much data you need 
-          Issue of science “funding waves” – no funding for general AI, only Google does that 
-          Importance of risk-taking, main difference with US 
-          Challenge about demand, getting users 
-          Challenge about protecting IP 
-          Their initiative of data pool, free usage for one year 
VP Ansip presented DSM (to counter fragmentation) and European approach to AI, 
including free flow of data, better access to data/public sector information, ethics, 
education. Issue of investment gap compared to US, China. 
After the meeting, the Vice-President attended a series of presentations by Arago (slides 
will be attached when received).
